Hello -
I apologize if this is not the correct group for this question. I've
been researching some of the other groups as well. After reading an
article of Charles Kenyon's regarding naming filenames and characters
that can be used and not be used - my question is whether the same
rules apply to paragraph and character style names. I'm working in
Word 2000.
I'd also like to say that this group is truly wonderful. There are so
many of you experts who generously share your time and knowledge to
help others. Thank you!

Hi,
I expect the article you read was at
http://addbalance.com/word/namingfiles.htm. The same rules do not apply to
style names as apply to file names but there may be some characters that are
not allowed. I don't know what they would be, but if you find any, please
let me know. Having a system for naming styles is a good idea but keep in
mind the names of the built-in styles and start from those. You can have
multiple names for a single style, separated by a comma. I will usually
follow a long name by a name that consists of 1-3 letters/numbers. I.e.,
Heading 1,h1, Heading 2,h2 for simplicity in typing into the style box.
You may want to look at http://addbalance.com/usersguide/styles.htm for more
on styles - although not the answer to this question.

Charles ~
Thank you for your response! I will certainly let you know what I
find - if anything with respect to rules for naming styles!
