I've selected the TOC page and click F9 and it didn't UPDATE. I also tried to select View->Toolbar and don't see the Outlining option. Can someone tell me what's wrong here. I have Word 2000 running on Windows 2000.

Just to step back a bit....

You did use Word to create the TOC, right (i.e., you didn't type a single
word of it yourself)? Word will only update TOCs generated by Word.

If you select View | Outline, the outlining toolbar will pop up
automatically (glad to know it's directly accessible in later versions than
2000/2001.)

Don't know if that toolbar has an Update TOC button in Word 2000.
