Default Customizing Toolbars in MSO 2007

Have you expanded the chevrons? If there are too many icons to fit the space you
will need to expand. This will be especially true if you are using a laptop. The
first time you use a command it will stay visible. How are you customizing? Are
you dragging the command icon to a toolbar?
Are you using a trial? I don't see this in my 2007. Does this happen in Word?

I have MS Office 2007 and using Publisher to produce a Newsletter. I have
tried repeatedly to customize my toolbars to make certain tasks simpler.
Every time I close the program and relaunch, all the customizing I have
previously done has gone. It seems like the customization is temporary to the
current session which is really very irritating! I have even created new
toolbars and loaded with buttons that I frequently use, but these too have
apparently vanished with each new session. Has anyone else experienced this?
Does anyone know how to make these changes remain beyond the current session?
I have never had this problem with previous versions (and I've been using MS
Office since it's inception!).
