Default how do i edit fields in contacts view

The address fields are on the General page, the one that you see when you first open the item. They are also present on the All Field page.

Thanks Sue,
I have tried right clicking on the contact, then "Open" then I get 5 tabs
(general, detail, activities, certificates, all fields) none of which seem to
have suitable places for me to enter/edit the stuff I want to put in "Address
Street", "Address City" etc.

You would need to open the item and edit it in its own window.

thanks Sue
if some fields can not be edited in a folder view, what view should I be
using?

What fields are you trying to edit? The email address fields cannot be edited in a folder view.

Peter, thanks for the prompt, and easy to follow instructions. Unfortunately
the check box already had a tick in it, so i am still stuck.

Right click on a free place in the contact view, "Customize Current
View...", "Other Settings...", check the box "Allow in-cell editing".
