I don't have such an account handy - but I believe with IMAP the messages
aren't really cleared until you select 'purge'.

I believe it is an IMAP account. In fact, I just checked and it is
an IMAP. Any suggestions?

If you delete a message, it goes to the deleted items folder
automatically. Is this not working? Are you perchance using an IMAP
account?
Note - the deleted items folder is *not* a good place to store
anything. If you think you might need something later, don't delete
it. You don't keep your crystal champagne flutes in your kitchen
wastebasket, do you? :-)

In Outlook 2003 when I finish reading a message, I want to delete it
but want it to go to the deleted message folder, in case I need it
later. Do I have to move each message to the deleted folder once I
have deleted it or is there a way to have them move automatically to
the deleted folder when I close Outlook?
I know to not check the box to empty the deleted folder upon
closing.
