I just realised that the method given in
http://wordtips.vitalnews.com/PrintPages/T0757P.html
will allow overwriting characters in MS Word; something that has
been asked in the past. It could be a bit clumsy unless an
autocorrect could be set up.

If I have re-invented the wheel, and I do it often enough :-), I
apologize.
