What am I supposed to reset my autoarchive folder to? It is already set for
archive.pst.
Some of the names & addresses are different from the Outlook Address Book
and the Contacts Folder. The Contacts folder doesn't have my distrubution
lists in it.

In the list from Contacts that shows when I click the Address Book icon,
I see names, display names, email addresses, and distribution lists.
When I click on the Address Book icon on the toolbar, in the show names
from box, it says Contacts and my current list shows. If I click the down
arrow then right click on "Outlook Address book" to get the properties,
it says "No entries in this Address Book" and I get 2 error messages. One
is "Property dialog box could not be displayed. An attempt was made to
open an unsupported property." The next message has the same 1st sentence

If I right-click the Contacts Folder from the same list, it says: "Type:
Folder containing contact Items, Location Archive Folders, Description:
Contacts Comment".
The Outlook Address Book Tab says: "Show this folder as an email Address
Book. Name of AB: Contacts."
If I go to Tools, Options, Other, AutoArchive, it says it moves old items
to C:...\Microsoft\Outlook\archive.pst. Isn't that my Archive Folder?

The Folder named "Outlook Today" is your default Outlook Data File. It
should never also be your Archive location. I can only assume that at
some point you designated your autoarchive location to be the same as
your default file. See if you can reset the autoarchive location to your
archive file in Tools Options Other Autoarchive...
What exactly do you see in your Outlook Address Book that you do not see
in one of your Contacts Folders? I need to make sure we know where all
your data is before we try to repair your Outlook Address Book.

My problem is that I can't find the contacts that are associated with
the Address Book icon on the toolbar. I know there's no info in the
address book on the above list, but where is the AB icon getting names,
email addresses, and distribution lists from? I don't know how to find
that and transfer it into my contacts folder.

have a Contacts Folder in your Outlook profile that contains that
information. Before we repair your profile, it is essential that you
identify the Folders that contain your most current information. We
cannot determine that for you.

in your Profile so we can see where your most current data actually
resides. (Use the icon on the bottom pane of the Navigation Panel to

I have no idea how that happened. FYI there is another Folder on the
same level as Outlook Today - [Archive Folders] named Archive Folders.
In that folder there are folders for Calendar, Deleted Items, Garden
Image (one of my old folders), Inbox, Jnl, Sent Items & Tasks. In the
Sent Items are things from 2004. In the Deleted Items are items from
2003. In the Inbox only one folder appears and it too has old stuff in
it.
Re my Data: It appears to be intact except that the Contacts List and
its subfolder Mailing List do not have the most current info in them.
I can only get to the current & correct list by clicking on the
Address Book icon in the toolbar. The Address Book folder is empty.
What I'd like to do is replace the Contacts info with the AB icon
info.

How did your Archive Folder ever become your default Data File?
The Archive folder never contains your complete Outlook Data and
should not be designated as your delivery location.
Does all of your Outlook Data appear to be intact?

If I click on File, Data File Management, 2 files named Archive
show up: The settings for the first one (mail delivery location)
are the same as above. The second one has nothing under Comments

Archive.pst.
I also have another path but I can't seem to recreate how I got it.

It's easy to get your address books all messed up when you
transfer Outlook data, especially when you use import/export in
the process. Outlook is very intolerant of various methods
people might naturally use and provides no clear instructions on
how to do it.
Fortunately, it's very easy to fix because its just a matter of
redoing your Outlook Address Book settings. Your data is not at
risk here. The first thing you need to do is make sure you know
the name and location of your default Outlook Data File. Then we

I can't remember everything. I do know I checked this group for
how to move my contact info from one computer to another. I did
that but something didn't work right. I went back to the group
messages and found something that talked about transferring
files using export/import, so I tried that. I did nothing to
configure Outlook on this computer. somthing I did in the
transfer/ex-import established my dsl connection so I have no
problem sending/receiving email. It's just the contacts &
address book that are screwed up. Isn't there some way to fix
them?

A couple things seem very strange here.
Why would your Archive Folder be your root Outlook data file?
It should never be your default data file.
The Address Book does not show in Folder List. What is
"Address Book?" Did you create a Folder that you named Address
Book?
You'd better tell us how you created your profile and
specified your default Outlook Data File.

When I highlight Address Book, the from/subject box says
"There are no items to show in this view."
BUT when I click on the Address Book icon in the Toolbar, a
screen called Address Book comes up with names & email
addresses. In the "Show Names from the:" box, it says
"Contacts". If I click the down arrow, it says:
Outlook Address Book
Contacts (contacts is highlighted)
If I click highlight the Outlook Address Book, It says "No
entries in this Address Book".
To further confuse things, the names/addresses that appear
when Contacts is highlighted in this view, are not the same
as the ones in the Folder List Contacts.

problem and something must have worked - partially. 1. Now I
have a Contacts folder in Outlook Today with a sub-folder
called Mailing List.

Your description, if accurate, defies reality. If you have
two or more Contacts Folders listed under your Outlook
Address Book, then that dialog box could not be blank.
Re read what I posted. State your problem more clearly and
post back with a more accurate description of what you are
seeing.
