Default 2003; images missing from normal view

Well, it's normal for me! I do almost all my composition in Normal view, as
it provides the most efficient view of plain text. If a document requires
complex formatting and layout, I'll switch to Print Layout, but most of what
I do does not require that.

That's the intended behavior. Normal view never shows anything from the
drawing layer.

As has been said before in these newsgroups, "Normal" is a misnomer for

this
view; it should be called something like "Restricted view for really old,
lame computers" and Print Layout should be called "Normal".

I have a document with several images mixed in with the text. In
print preview, print layout, web layout and reading layout the images
are seen, in normal view they are not. Is this a corrupted document
or something within Word (2003)?

Thanks
