The issue is that objects in the drawing layer cannot be in table cells in
some Word versions.

I also have the same problem with the arrows. You are right about any
drawn object not working correctly when used in a table. Suzanne was correct
about there being a lot of information about the Equation Editor, but I
don't think the answer lies there. You would think that something as simple
as using a text box or an arrow would be easy enough for a program like Word
to handle.
