Default Bug? Outlook 2003 can't handle LDAP, but Outlook Express 6 could??

Diane, I tried the first two- I originally found those when I searched the
net, but they didn't mention Outlook 2003. But, I tried them now anyway,
and I get the same results. With both KB's, I exited Outlook 2003,
performed the change, and re-entered Outlook 2003. I also performed each
modification individually, and then combined- with the same error result.

The first link (Microsoft KB 311829) didn't change anything. The second
link, Microsoft KB 262848, was the registry key for the "max number of
contacts to display" dialog box from Outlook; it was already set to 10 from
when I changed it. I follwed KB 262848 and changed it to 12 (just to verify
a change), and it did show the change inside Outlook 2003.

Plus, those links seem to be related to an "explicit search" of the LDAP. I
think the problem is that when I compose a message, and click the "To:"
button, then I choose "Company LDAP" from the drop down, that Outlook 2003
is trying to display the entire LDAP in that little "select contacts"
dialog. After the error boxes are done popping up, if I click "Advanced",
and then "Find", I can search the LDAP okay. I hope that makes sense...

That's why I think this might be a bug; when I choose "Company LDAP" from
the drop down, Outlook 2003 should only display the first 100 (or 20 or 10
or 12) entries from the ldap server- and then let me click advanced/find. I
think it's trying to dump the whole LDAP server into the "select contacts"
dialog box! With Outlook Express, it let me do a "Search" first
(Edit/Find/People), but I can't find a similar function in Outlook 2003- the
only "people search" I can do from the Outlook menus is a search of my
personal contacts folder.

Here's some info for my environment; computer is P4/3.0 ghz, 2 GB ram, WinXP
Pro SP1 with all the latest updates, Office 2003 Professional Enterprise
Edition. The Outlook 2003 version information is Version 11.0, Build 5608.
I just noticed there's an Office 2003 Support Pack 1 available (which I
haven't installed yet)- but I checked Microsoft KB 872839, and there's no
update for this problem.
