Default Visio Template & Stencil

Perhaps your stencil is not in a recognised folder or in the same folder as
the template?
Visio will check for the stencils in the following order (I think):
1. Is the stencil in the installation table? (Either built-in or published
correctly)
2. Is the stencil in the same folder as the template?
3. Is the stencil in a stencils paths folder? (Use Options / Advanced / File
Paths)

If it fails, then you won't get the stencil to open automatically.

How can you connect a stencil to a template?

I created a template and my own stencils. When a person open the
template
the stencil is missing. The stencil must be open first, close both the
stencil and template, then you can re-open the template and the stencil
is
there. That's crazy...

Open the template, then open the required stencils via the menu File
- Shapes, then save the template (save as, select template and ensure
Workspace is selected (Visio 2007 is different, before the Save As do
menu File - Properties - Save Workspace ))
