Default No, Office 2003 is not compatible with Windows 7

Veteran Office User wrote:
I am running a new clean install of 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium. I just
installed Office 203 Small Business and none of the updates will run. Error
message is really helpful: "The update could not be installed." Tried Service
Packs 1, 2 and 3, and a small security update - none work.

Second issue: it demands that you accept the EULA every time.

Third issue: it won't shut down properly. A blank Word page is open now,
because I have to shut down the computer to get it to go away. The X will not
respond.

Yes, I've tried right-clicking and clicking "Run as Administrator." No effect.

Conclusion: No matter how many times Microsoft claims that Office 2003 is
compatible with Windows 7, it actually isn't. If I have to jump through hoops
to get it to work, it's not compatible - and if it still won't work AFTER I
jump through hoops, it's really not compatible.

By contrast, I downloaded OpenOffice from the web and everything works fine,
first time. Naturally, I'll use the latter and forget the former...

Comments?

I can tell you that Office 2003 oem was installed on my Win 7/64 oem
machine. It works perfectly.

For a week or two it did ask for an extra click to authorize it every
time I used it. Suddenly this ended and all is well. There is a MS
notice on how to fix that issue, something about running as
administrator or something similar.
