This will happen when two conditions apply: the form's Recordsource
returns no
records (so you can't see existing records), and it's not updateable (so
you
can't see the blank new record either).

What is the Recordsource property of the subform? Post the SQL. If you
open it
as a query datasheet, is there a * "new record" line at the bottom? (I'm
betting there isn't).
