Default Word2007 bug: won't place picture correctly

Side note:

Since your son sees the same thing on his Mac in Word X, one wonders
whether there may not be a set-up problem, as well as a Word 2007 bug.

Different Approach:

Since you have access to a Mac, and your printers accept PDFs, then the
booklet creating programs for OS X might be of use to you. Basically,
you print a regular Word document to PDF, and then the booklet program
takes the PDF, shrinks the pages, reshuffles the pages as necessary,
etc, dividing a single complex process into two simpler steps. I think
CheapImpostor even automatically does signatures for longer books. For
more information and links to the possible programs, see he
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/BookletsFold.html
It's not recently updated, but it will put you on the right path if this
method sounds less troublesome than what you are currently doing.

I believe Word 2007 now prints to PDF? (although you might have to
download something from MS. Then send just the PDF to your son's Mac and
never launch MacWord at all) With mass-market PDF creation, perhaps
there are/will be similar programs on the Windows side--even though
WinWord has BookFold and MacWord doesn't, I get the impression that
BookFold is not entirely reliable, so developers may see a gap in the
market. There may already be an Acrobat extension out there to
reshuffle PDF pages, perhaps.

PS. I'm having a very hard time wrapping my head around how you are
going to publish a book where the master copy was printed 2 pages per
sheet. All I can picture is some big paper cutters and some laborious
reshuffling, and that seems unrealistic.

I infer a good suggestion: another book, booklet really. I should
publish an expensive booklet on how to create a book ( publishing
is another matter.) I don't have time to do that now. Watch for it here
early next summer -- or on my web site.

Thanks for the comments and help.

I hate following up such a non-constructive conversation, but I am
a publisher. I send a finished manuscript to the printer. Nowadays
it will be in Postscript or Acrobat (remarkable how Postscript still
lives). Word is sometimes accepted, reluctantly and from the Mac.
I publish books, not booklets. No printer I've contacted recently will
accept "separate sheets." Camera-ready is dead, or should be -- how
well I remember it !

In my house, layout is definitely my responsibility -- and part of
my glory :-) ( but not on Word2007 )
