design and offering to look at what he had and make suggestions if

Probably because there's a problem with the Query being used as a
recordsource. If the Owned field is from a different table than that used
before you added it the Join in the query may not be set up correctly.
Perhaps
you could post the SQL view of the Recordsource query.
