Default Outlook 2007 Address Book

Russ,

I just noted 1 other thing. When I checked on the data files tab for the new
profile, it was shown as Outlook5.pst. I added the original Outlook.pst and
made it the default. My orinal in box, sent items, calender and contacts show
up, but no address book.

For us to figure out what you did wrong (if anything), we would need to know
how your "created a new personal folder file for contacts" and what you mean
by that. Outlook already creates a new personal folder file automatically
with a new profile and that Contacts Folder is enabled as an email address
book by default. Any other folder that you create, you'd have to designate
as an email address book yourself. Finally, we'd have to know how you
migrated your data to this new profile.
Are you certain this address book doesn't work? Is it configured to display
a Contacts folder that contains valid, resolved electronic addresses?

Russ,

When you first suggested a new profile, you didn't say how. At any rate,
the
help screens led me to the same article, and as I said, I followed
precisely,
tested the connection, and it worked. Even though you did not tell me to
do
so, I created a new personal file for contacts and made both the new
profile
and new contact folder default. Address book shows no entries.

Could the problem be in the application itself?

"Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote:

Well you certainly posted no information here. When done correctly the
address book works fine.

Actually Russ, I found this same article, last night, and followed it
precisely. I created a new profile, tested the connection, set it for
the
default profile and opened Outlook. None of my contacts show up in the
address book

Sounds like you didn't create a new Outlook profile at all. What did
you
do?

Russ,

I created a new profile through the mail icon, in the control panel.
No
change. Can you possibly direct me to someone else if you are unable
to
help?
I don't know what else to do. Once something is working, I don't
mess
around
with settings.

I greatly appreciate your assistance.

If there is nothing you can select from the dropdown that will show
your
Contacts then you lost the connection between your address book
view
and
your Contacts Folder. I sure don't know how you did it.
Unfortunately,
there
is no way to repair it in Outlook 2007 without creating a new
profile.

I believe you are talking about the address book icon on the tool
bar.
If I
click on this, a window opens where I have the opportunity to
type
in a
name
to search from one of 2 address books. No list of contacts
appear.
The
first
selected from the drop down is "contacts". If I type a name in to
search,
one
contact will appear. The second choice from the drop down is
outlook
address
book. If I search for a name, a message says there is nothing in
this
address
book.

Every other place I look; account settingsaddress bookchange,
lists
"contacts: personal folders", as my address book. In the
propeties
dialog
box
of the contacts personal folderoutlook address book, it lists
"contacts"
as
the address book.

You aren't adding another address book. You're adding your
Contacts
Folder
to your existing address book.
Are you sure you are even looking in the right place for your
Contacts?
When
you open your Address Book, can you not select your Contacts
from
the
dropdown and see them?

I deleted the the "Contacts:Personl Folders", Exited, and went
back
in
to
add
a new address book. My only options are mobil address book, or
outlook
address book. It won't let me add outlook address book again,
and
when
I
click on change, "Contacts:Personal Folders" reappears.

In the properties dialog box of the contacts folder, I cannot
remove.

"Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote:

But you can remove it, right? If nothing appears when you
view
this
folder
in the address book view, then you have a corrupt link to
your
Contacts
Folder. Remove this one and add the correct one.

Sorry Russ, perhaps I jumped ahead.

First , I did exactly as you asked, and when I clicked on
"change",
a
widow
opened that showed my outlook address book as
"contactsersonal
folders".

Within the same window, and above, the text said to go to
properties
in
the
contacts, personal folders. The dialog box showed that this
folder
was
selected as the e-mail address book. As I said last night,
there
is
a
check
mark in this box, but it is not "active", which is to say
that
the
text
and
check box are light gray, and I couldn't change if I wanted
to.

I'm sorry for the confusion but, this is exactly what I
see.

Wait. You confused me. The view I asked for has no check

You
said
it
does. You didn't mean that, did you?

Hi Russ,

I've been out of town.

OK, the window shows the selected Outlook Address Book
as
"Contacts:Personal
Folders". The text above this says that in the
properties
dialog
box
to
check
the box "Show this folder as the e-mail address book".
The
box
has a
check
mark, but it is not "active".

Russ,

Ok, I tried your suggestion. I only have 1 address
book;
"Contacts".
This
is
the one that had been selected; as always.

When I type a name into select names window that
opens
when I
click
on
"To"
in e-mail, no list of contacts appeares but, I can
type
a
name
in,
click
the
search button and one name will appear.

"Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote:

No. I'm saying open the Address Book from your
toolbar.
In
that
view
you
will have the option to choose which Contacts Folder
you
want
to
display
first.
