I experienced the same problem on a contact I had entered manually just yesterday. Contacts show up on a search, but are not listed in the contacts folder. That is because they are not in the contacts folder. Thanks to prior posts in this thread, but no thanks to Russ, I found that the search will bring up contact records in any folder (even the deleted items folder), not just the contacts folder. Change the view to "list" on the search results. The last column on the right should display the folder location. To fix the problem when the folder is not "Contacts", open up the folder and move the contact records to the contacts folder.
From the first post, I don't understand the confusion. The information provided was more than adequate. Anyone who had a problem understanding or finds it necessary to be so Picayune about correct terminology should find someone else to respond to these questions.

in outlook for a few of the contacts with success. They contimue to be hidden
in the outlook list until I do a search, delete the contact and re-enter them
as a new contact.

Outlook Address Books" and what you mean by that.
The problem that most people face in this regard is in the address book view
of Outlook, which may contain several outdated references to Contacts Folder
that are no longer valid. Is that what your problem is?
If so, you would remove invalid references to Contacts Folders from the
address book view he Tools E-mail accounts View or change existing
directories or address books Outlook Address Book Change???
If your problem is something else, then state more clearly what it is. Keep
in mind that there is no separate address book in Outlook, only an address
book view of your Contacts Folders.

contacts. you can then select the tab "view" and select current view and then

Maybe it is because you have not personlly seen the problem and cannot
