I have a standard business presentation that has several headings on the left
hand side (in a navigation bar) of each slide. This is to show a viewer
where they are in the presentation, as noted by a small arrow that moves down
the list as you click through slides. Right now, the heading list resides in
the master slide, but you have to manually move the arrow as you create new
slides in the presentation. Is there a way to automate this whole process so
that the arrow is linked to a heading of some sort and is placed
automatically (like a true template)? Thank you!

This may be overly simplistic, but have you tried saving the presentation to
HTML? By default, PPT then creates a list of slide titles on the left; each
title is a link so the color changes when the user clicks on it.
