Default Text across multiple cell borders.

I'm creating a calendar with a basic Word table and wish to place text across
several cells with out merging the cells.
So, if one week is occupied by one event, is there a way to write that event
once in larger font across all 7 cells or am I stuck writing the same thing
in each cell?

BTW, I know this is a possibility with WordArt, but wondering if there is
another way?

Yes, that would be the most logical thing to do, but apparently not the
logical thing for me...thank you.
