Default Graphics don't display in Publisher 2002

Hi,

I'm having a silimiar problem with my dell system and its using the same
exact video card. only difference is that im using MS Publisher 2003.

dell video card info as of 9/21/2005
Release Title: Video: Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family, Driver,
Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows XP x64, Multi Language, Multi System,
v.6.14.10.4363, A06
Release Date: 09/14/2005
Description: Graphics driver for 915G based systems

here is what i have.
1. the pictures is just blank and does not have an X across it.
2. when publisher opens up in safe mode it does display all the pictures.
3. logging in as another user publisher works fine and the pictures can be
viewed.

you probably noticed that Dell has released new drivers from the note above.
i installed the latest drivers and dropped the resolution to 1152x864 and
problem solved.

hope this update helps and sorry i didnt have time to read the entire
thread...

the consumer?

Intel have already fixed the problem, but Dell have so far not bothered to
implement the fix for their machines. Dell have chosen to use non-generic
Intel drivers, and as such they have taken on the burden of driver support.

This normally leaves the consumer contacting Dell support and being told to
reformat and reinstall (just as most OEMs tell *everyone* who calls them to
reformat and reinstall as step 2 of their script)

It seems to me that if Dell and Microsoft and Intel are working
together to get their products into the same computer, they should
work together to resolve such problems.

Microsoft release a *lot* of software. Dell release a *lot* of computers.
Intel release a *lot* of hardware components. Unfortunately, there are
bigger issues on-hand than a graphics display problem in Publisher,
especially when there's nothing Microsoft or Intel can do to fix the
problem. (Well, Microsoft technically could fix the problem, but it would
require a complete recode of many basic features in Publisher, which the
Publisher team simple doesn't have the time or the manpower to accomplish)

I again contacted Dell, but received no response.

Unfortunately, this does not surprise me.

At this point, I am living with a computer with no screensaver, which
I sacrificed in order to use Publisher. Shouldn't I be entitled to
both?

You could always consider buying a new graphics card. There are some very
cheap models available that function very reasonably with such demanding
tasks as 3D games, and will almost certainly be better than your onboard
card.
