Default Computer and External Faxing at the same time

HI.

just found this newsgroup, sorry for the cross-post. here's my plight, bear
with me on the long post.

my wife has a dedictaed phone line with a HP all in one fax machine hooked
up. she receives many faxes, but not all of them always need to be printed.
her friends tell her that they use WinXP to receive and send faxes. This is
ok, if she creates the documents in Word. she could send them straight out.
many times she receives faxes, makes some pen and ink changes and then
re-faxes them out. so....on that note, here's what I'm trying to do.

1. keep the fax machine on-line so she can send and receive faxes.
2. have the computer receive faxes if the fax machine doesn't answer in a
specified amount of time.

I know this is a crazy post, but she is driving me crazy, saying it's got to
be possible. If anyone can give me some inside info or point me in the
right direction, I would surely appreciate!

TIA

Ingit

Assuming you can hook both devices to the same line, why can't you just set
Windows XP Fax to answer after more rings than the fax machine?

Thanks for responding. I had posted in another group and got to the same
answer. I'm going to set XP to answer at 2 rings and my fax a 6.
