Problem with Outlook Pocket Contact Synchronizer
My installed version of the Outlook Pocket Contact Synchronizer seems to
have become corrupted somehow. Because when I click on the Outlook PCS button on the toolbar to start the synchronization, nothing happens. It used to immediately start churning away at the synchronization, but now it just does nothing. I tried uninstalling the add-in using the "Add or Remove Programs" utility, then installing again, but no luck. (I know for a fact that this method of uninstalling only partially removes the program because it does leave behind the Outlook PCS button on the toolbar! So that's a remnant right there that doesn't get completely removed by conventional means!) I suspect there are remnants from the corrupted installation or uninstallation that are interfering with the program re-installing and running properly. Can anyone provide me with instructions on how to completely purge the Outlook PCS add-in from my computer, Registry and all? I figure with that completely gone, I could start over and re-install it from scratch. Or does anyone have any other ideas? By the way, I'm using Outlook 2002 with ActiveSync3.5 on a Windows XP Pro platform. I'd really like to get this thing working again so I can keep my contacts synchronized between my PocketPC and my desktop computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Garret Swayne |

Garret Swayne Hello Garret, This might sound silly but did you close Outlook before uninstalling the add-in ? What I mean is that if the PPC was connected to the device, then even if the Outlook application was not open on your screen, an instance of it would be running in the background processes. See the extract below from the following site --- http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/opcs.aspx ================================================== ======= To remove this download: 1. Quit Outlook. 2. On the Start menu, point to Settings and then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. 4. In the list of currently installed programs, select Outlook Pocket Synchronizer 1.2 and then click Remove or Add/Remove. If a dialog box appears, follow the instructions to remove the program. 5. Click Yes or OK to confirm that you want to remove the program. ================================================== ======= Here is a suggestion - Install the add-in again then search for a program called scanpst.exe on your computer. This is a small utility which will scan your *.pst file (the file that contains your personal information) for possible corruption and attempt to repair it. For more information, visit --- http://www.slipstick.com/problems/scanpst.htm Perform a soft reset on your PPC and then attempt to sync. Hopefully, the corrupt pst file might be the cause behind preventing a successful synchronization. Good luck !! -- Regards, Raj |

Problem with Outlook Pocket Contact Synchronizer
Thank you Raj! Running scanpst.exe after removing the program seemed top be
the key in correcting the problem. I was able to reinstall the program and this time, it "took". It's functional again! Thank you so much for your help. -Garret Swayne "Raj Pillai" wrote in message ... "Garret Swayne" wrote in message link.net...
