Default Word to Wordperfect no option to "save as"

I fixed the cut/paste issue by changing the compatibility settings however
we still cannot save as WP files. Saving as RTF is not an option as I'm not
training 20 workers how to take 3 steps to do what they use to do in 1 and
taking all the heat for a feature that SHOULD work.

As far as this old conversion file does anyone have anymore info on this?
Where, how to install, any hacks to make it work, etc???

Another option is to save as RTF as Wordperfect can read RTF files.

BTW, the best newsgroup for this is word.conversions.

just
fine
yet certain Word features are just "screwy". Namely is the Save As

feature
does not have anything but Word, RTF, and Text if I remember right

although
I have gone into the Office setup and told it to install EVERYTHING
especially the converters and such. Word can open a WordPerfect file

however
if we try to cut/paste from WP to Word we get an error of something

like
"file conversion not known". I'm not sure that error relates directly

to
the
fact we can't save as a WP file but I suspect it is.

Sorry for the cross post but unsure where this one belongs....

Platform:

WinXP SP2
MS Office Small Business 2003 (fully updated)
WordPerfect 2000 with SP4 I think

I will mention that this same setup works just fine on another PC with
Office XP instead of 03.

I found the information on my own web page (I forgot). The file name is
WPFT532.CNV.
http://addbalance.com/word/wordperfect.htm

Simply copy it over the file of the same name in the Word 2003/2003
installation. (Save your old file under a different name or on a floppy
first just in case.) AFAIK, it works fine. It is slightly larger than the
installation file, I assume that the larger portion includes the information
needed to convert _to_ as well as from these files.

Thanks I'll give that a try on this problem PC. It's the only one that this
is happening to so that doesn't make sense. The only thing I can think of is
the order I installed WP, Word or a SP caused the problem. My laptop is
running 2K and Office 03 and it works just fine saving as WP and i've got
XP's with Office XP that save fine in any format, just this one PC is the
problem child.

Hi James,

Followup set to: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...rd.conversions

FWIW, there is no 'microsoft.public.word' newsgroup hosted
by Microsoft on their news server, although there can be a
group with that name hosted on other news servers.

The WPFT532.CNV (WP 5.1 DOS) converter that included a 'save as'
option was removed, by Microsoft as part of the security review
in preparing Office 2003. It is not available either with
the Office 2003 products or as part of the optional
converter pack. You can get the old converter to 'play',
by replacing the one in
\Program Files\Common Files\Text Converters\ (167K)
with one that is 233K (Wd2000) or 255K (Wd2002) and turn on
'Confirm Conversions at Open in Word to open a non .DOC file
to activate it. Note that doing so is at your risk and is
a 'use as is'.

You can also obtain older converter pack filters through
phoning MS Office support (http://support.microsoft.com) .
on a case by case basis.

Keep in mind that current versions of WordPerfect can read
and write MS Word .doc files and that Word has never been
able to save in WordPerfect v6 format (the format that is
still in use in WordPerfect v12). There are 3rd party
converters that can save in the newer WordPerfect format.

I've tried all the following to date including the file copy thing:

1. Installed the converter pack.
2. Copied the WP converter (WPFT523) from a working PC to the non working
one.
3. Copied the WP converter (WPFT523) from Office XP to the non working one.
4. Modify install of Office to "Install Everything"
5. Do a install repair.
6. Uninstall and reinstall Word.
7. Uninstall and reinstall Office 03
8. Change Options, Compatibilty to Word 02, 00, WP 5, whatever, no change
9. Modify install to No Converters, change back to full.
10. Uninstall Office 03 and return it to MS and install the free Open Office
(just kidding)

Not only can we not save in any format other than the typical but in the
Options, Save tab WP is not an option either. I would add
when I removed ALL converters we could still save in Works and older Word
which seems weird.
