exteranl background file
I am creating a set of diagrams that are used together, and exist as several
separate .vsd files. Each of the files has several pages/tabs, but they all use the same background. I am hoping to put the backgrounds in a separate file and point foreground pages to it, so I don't have to maintain the same background in each of the many diagram files. So the question is, can you configure a foreground page to use a background that exists in an external file? |

Well, you could create a Visio document for your Background (just one page).
Save it, close it Create new Visio document, insert a Background page, make this the background to your Foreground pages. Go to the Background page and Insert / Object / Visio document / Create from File - Link to File This should display the page from the previous document It will update the link whenever you open the foreground documents (or when you ask for an update) "paulv" wrote in message ... external background file
David,
Thanks very much for the idea. Here's what I found. It functions exactly as you describe. Unfortunately, the visual quality/clarity of the embedded object loses a lot in the translation. I gather I am limited to using a page available in the Page Properties Background drop-down list, and there is no other way to reference a background page in an external file (like you can in other Office products, like Excel--'[filename]worksheet'!cell)?
