Default How do I default to open documents in a new window in Excel?

I would like to be able to set Excel to open new documents in a new window.
Currently, documents open in the same window, so if you close the window
instead of the document all open Excel documents close and I have to go back
and re-open them. We use multiple file systems so this can be a lengthy and
annoying process.
