Default Query performance Access 2007

After converting an Access 97 application and database table to Access 2007,
queries became extremely slow.
This is a split application; front end runs local and tables are in a remote
server.
Just to have an idea, a simple query on a data table with 220 records
returning two records, took more than 2 minutes to complete.
The same query from Access 2007, using the same table as above in Access 97
format, running under the same conditions starting at about the the same time
took just a few seconds.
I converted to Access 2007, expecting better performance.
My guess is just something is wrong with the general database properties I
have overlooked or any chnages in table or query properties I am not aware of.
Any ideas?

My mistake, it was Access 2003, not 97
