Default what is the purpose of Active X. What is the actual risk?

Is Active X necesssary? What will it do? What is the actual risk? I am being
prompted to intall Active X, but do not understand why?

Without the circumstances (in detail) under which you are being prompted to
install the ActiveX control, or even what ActiveX control it is, we can't
answer any of your questions.

What software are you using when the propt occurs? If you can give the name
of the ActiveX Control, then perhaps someone might be able to offer
suggestions.
