Default Flag button on the toolbar is greyed out

I simply want to be able to flag my messages and have them show up in the
"unread mail" and "for follow up" folders. after much searching I found the
flag button but it is greyed out and there seems to be no way to turn it on.
Can anyone help with this matter? I am using outlook 2003
Thank you

"Unread mail" is not a real folder. It just shows unread mail in other
folders. Flag the messages in the Inbox instead. You can right click on a
message and mark it as "Unread" if you want.

I didn't know about the right click thing. Yes it works when the flag button
is active. I found out on my own why its greyed out. It seems you can not
flag a message when the messages reside on hotmails' server (While they are
in the folder "Inbox in Hotmail"). I have to first downdload to my local
Inbox then flagging is active. What a pain it is that I be forced to dl
before reviewing.
Thanks for the answer Bro

Next time, don't leave out important information. We would have been able
to tell you what it was immediately had you included your account type in
the original post.
