I believe you missed the bit of information identifying that NEITHER JoAnn
NOR Milly work for Microsoft.

Failure to read ALL of messages or to do a search of existing messages to

In the survey's of the Student targeted population for the Home and Office edition my understanding is that it was found that there
was more of a requested/sensed need to have MS Office OneNote's functionallity added and available 'in the box' for that market than
there was for MS Office Outlook while still maintaining the same price point as the Office 2003 Student & Teacher product, and
actually removing the requirement to have a student in the home from the license.

In school and home environments, a number of folks have already established email accounts and web based email clients (whether
through their cable/DSL provider, or another online presence including as part of the MS Office free website hosting (
http://officelive.com ), through 3rd party email clients such as Firebird, or even with MS Outlook Express(WinXP) or Windows
Mail(Vista), often so they can check their email from almost any computer. In other words, many folks didn't like thinking they
were paying for Outlook when they wouldn't be using it Obviously that's not true for everyone.

Outlook 2007 is available as a separate purchase for folks who would like to add it.

Whether Windows Live mail client will be updated to allow it to hook to Office 2007 is a question that you may want to also post on
in the Windows Vista newsgroups to see if the folks there have any additional information. In Windows XP, Outlook Express, a MAPI
client does allow you to hook into Word and Excel, for example, to send email.

Thanks for this reply Bob. It gives me a better perspective on the decision
you made. I might be wrong but I'm sure that when I was trialling the Home &
Student Edition of Office 2007 (The 60 day free trial you offer) the Send
E-Mail option from the drop down button in top left hand corner of Word,
Excel etc was working. In my case I have Windows Live Mail desktop beta as
my e-mail client on my PC and I'm pretty sure an New e-mail opened up with
the document attached. It was after I paid for the product that I suddenly
found the option greyed out in Office 2007. So now I have to save the file
then go to Mail, start a new e-mail, attach the document and send the email
off. OK it's not such a big deal but it would be great if I could send
straight from the office product I'm working on via my Vista default mail
client.

Bob did not make any decisions about the SKU for Office. Microsoft made that decision.

Excuse my ignorance: I have almost the same question. I just bought MS
Office Home/Student 2007. I use Outlook Express for email, on a Win XP
system (brand new, I might add). Am I reading this right that the reason I
cannot use the send to email recipient option is that Outlook Express does
NOT integrate with Word 07? The way this came up is today trying to send a
family tree information sheet to a relative (clearly, personal use).

Am I reading this right that I cannot send email from within Word 07 but
must save, start OE, and attach the document to an email that way?

What if I bought Outlook (unlikely to occur, but what if). Would the email
option still be greyed out in Word 07???

I think you missed the last paragraph. :-)

Open IE and go to Tools/Internet Options. On the Programs tab, make sure you
have Outlook Express set as your email editor.
