Default Access 2007 error when linking to Paradox/BDE table

Linking to a Paradox table in Access 2007 results in an unexpected error of
11265.

This table was linkable in previous Access versions.

Another thread here described a solution to a different BDE problem as
editing Paradox registry entries under ODBC.ini.

I don't have a Paradox entry there in the tree. But, the Import from
Paradox option is available in Access 2003.

Thinking maybe the BDE driver wasn't installed, I tried re-installing (w/o
uninstalling) Office 2007, but couldn't find any custom install options that
mention 3rd party engines like this one.

Any suggestions (other than the preferred, but not feasible, one of
abandoning Paradox!) ??

Hi Tom,

Are you using the release version of MS Access 2007 or one of the betas? There was an issue in the beta release with registry
entries for the Borland Data Engine (BDE) that should have been resolved in the 60day trial editions http://trymicrosoftoffice.com

Hi, Bob!

I was hoping I'd get a response from you (since you were helpful when a beta
problem with the BDE arose)! :-)

Darn, of all the rookie mistakes, I can't believe I forgot to post the
version I'm running. I downloaded the ISO from MSDN Subscriber downloads.
It's:

Microsoft Office Access 200 (12.0.4518.1014 MSO

Default Access 2007 error when linking to Paradox BDE table

The problem I was having opening Paradox files in Access 2007 were due to the
fact that the (default) BDE NetDir (for PdoxUsers.Net) is C:\, which is a
restricted location in Vista.

And, BdeAdmin.exe was locking up when closing. (It may still be for all I
know... I'm not using it!)

Use RegEdit to change the key below to a folder to which you have full rights:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Borland\Database
Engine\Settings\Drivers\Paradox\Init\NetDir
