Picture moves along with margins in other section
I have a document with a floating picture in the header. The position
of the picture is of the type “absolute position” and is defined relative to the margin. I need a second section with smaller margins and no header. So what I do is: - go to the end of the document - insert a section break “next page” - remove the link between the section 1 and section 2 header - delete the section 2 header - reduce the margins of section 2 and, very unexpectedly to me, the picture in the header of section 1 moves to the left. It moves along with the margins of section 2, as if its position is linked to the margins of section 2. How is this possible? Did I do something wrong? I am hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. |

Headers (and Footers) are styles, so if you change something like the
margins, it will reflect in all the headers. How are you changing the margins in the new section's header? What will work is to make sure that the Header Styles is not set to Automatically Update. Then in the new section's header, change the paragraph indents rather than the margins. Note that if you need the margins wider, use a negative indent (an outdent). -- Terry Farrell - MSWord MVP wrote in message ... I have a document with a floating picture in the header. Picture moves along with margins in other section
If the picture position is set relative to the margins in Section 1 and you
change the margins in Section 1, the picture really *should* move; IMO, it's a bug if it doesn't, and that's just as bad as having it move when you change the margins in Section 2. But that's neither here nor there; can you instead define the position of the graphic relative to the page? That should solve the problem. Note that if you have the position defined (correctly) relative to the margins, when you change the setting to Page, the setting that is automatically entered should be correct. -- Suzanne S. I’d rather not change something in the first section. The real document is a bit more complicated than I’ve sketched here, and I’d rather not fiddle with the first section. But, I guess I have no choice. I really think this is a bug in Word. I tried your suggestion and it did work. When the picture position is specified ‘relative to page’, it behaves normal. I tried changing it back to ‘relative to margin’ and hoped that things would miraculously be functioning again, but they didn’t. Obviously, the ‘relative to margin’ setting does not work good with a picture or textbox in the heading and multiple sections. Is there a place where you can you report bugs like this? Is it usefull to do this? |

I'll escalate the issue to Microsoft. Can you send me a document that is
exhibiting the anomalous behavior? -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA http://word.mvps.org wrote in message ... On 30 mrt, 17:23, "Suzanne S.
