Is there any way to extract the text and images held in a Publisher (2000,
I
think) file without Publisher?

I already know there isn't a way to open the file in it's native format
without Publisher, so I am hoping I can extract the information from the
file.

You can extract the text from Word, file, open, files of type, scroll down to
"recover text from any file."

That's what I told him I'd do. He prefers not to have to re-create the
wheel. He'll be carving a new wheel but he'll have a petrograph of the old
wheel. :-)

I also have another trick up my sleeve I want to try. No promises but
maybe..................

Hi JoAnn

I get the impression from the thread that you have emailed me direct. I
haven't received anything from you. Can you resend, please? In case you
didn't get my message asking for your address you can email me at "ic2 at
ntlworld dot com".

A pdf would be perfect as this will retain the original layout. If I ever
need to change the content (which I probably will at some stage) I can
extract from the pdf with no problem.

The individual components would be useful if I ever need to edit the
document, but I can always extract the info from the pdf (I think)

I'm intrigued.

BTW, I'm the IC of the original message. Different computer, different
settings. Might be less confusing if I had them both se up the same :-)

Hi Mary

That's a useful tip. It sounds as though JoAnn is going to be able to help
me out in this instance, but the technique is filed in the grey matter for
future reference.

Okay, Ian is on his way.

Just so you know what I did........I opened the files in Publisher and then
saved them as .pdfs. And then, thanks to a ScanSoft's PDF Converter, I
opened the .pdf in Word. The program does its best to convert any .pdf file
to a usable Word document. I've had mixed results with it but your file was
probably the closest I've ever had.

Ian now has a Word document that he can edit and everyone should live
happily ever after. :-)

Just for the record.

Many thanks to Don and Mary for your input in this thread, but the most
gratitude goes to JoAnn who did a sterling job of getting me out of a hole
of my own making. This is what you get for using software on a computer you
don't own - not a mistake I'll make again in a hurry!
