Outlook 2000 downloading previously read emails
How do I stop Outlook 2000 from downloading previously read e-mail messages
from the server? Outlook is configured to leave messages on the server, and has been configured this way and has worked fine for years .... suddenly, the old messages are being downloaded at Outlook start up! It was necessary to repair the .pst file (done using scanpst.exe after recovery with the Oversized PST Recovery Utility) because the size limit was reached, and since then, the download of old messages began. As I understand it the downloaded msg details/log is contained within the
pst file, if you have used the crop tool and scanpst then that log has been removed. Are you using the Archive option? that might be an idea, in order to control the size of your data file. You can create multiple archives, its just a matter of ammending your archive settings, personnally I create Archives by year. "QueenMama" wrote in message ... Aha! I suspected something like that - I was uncomfortable with the idea of
truncating the file in order to be able to repair it, but I figured it was the only way to salvage anything. Evidently the log was cropped - makes perfect sense now. I can let outlook create a new .pst file, then import the items from the old one to reconstruct a file that includes the log. And I will make some "laws" around here about archiving - I like your idea of archiving by year, nice and orderly - so we don't have this problem again! Thanks for your help, DL!! If you Import your origonal pst, that was corrupted due to a size issue,
then your new pst will likewise be corrupted. In general you dont import native OL data, but simply open the pst within OL and copy data from one to the other. "QueenMama" wrote in message ... Aha! Right - I did not import the original pst in it's entirety .... there is a
feature in Outlook 2000 which allows you to import ITEMS from the individual folders, one at a time, which I did, the effect being that the new pst file is now populated with the original items but not the structure - and we are now back in e-mail business .... the unwanted downloading has stopped and all is back to normal. Again, thanks for your insight..... "DL" wrote: If you Import your origonal pst, that was corrupted due to a size issue, then your new pst will likewise be corrupted.
