Outlook 2000 Offline folders and Exchange 2003
I have a problem in my lab where I am simulating migrations from Exchange 5.5
to Exchange 2003. I am using the Quest migration tool and noticed after I migrated users with offline folders that I could not access the folders offline after I was connected to an Exchange 2003 server. At first I thought it was the migration software. But then I took a couple of client machines that were not part of any migration test. I then set up two profiles on the same machine using outlook 2000 (this is the version the client is currently using on the desktop) One profile was connected to a mailbox on the Exchange 5.5 server in the Source environment. I set up the offline folders and synchronized. I then closed outlook disconnected from the network. I opened Outlook just fine, using the offline folders. I then connected back to the network and set up the second profile that was connected the Target environment and Exchange 2003. I set up the offline folders, using a DIFFERENT ost file, and synchronized. I verified that it syncd by looking at each folder properties. I also looked at the file and it was over 2 MB so I know there was data in the ost file. I then disconnected from the network and tried to open Outlook 2000. It failed to open the offline folders. I get the generic message that it cannot connect to the default e-mail folders and do I want to open the system folders. I then installed Outlook 2003 on another test workstation, connected to the Exchange 2003 server and configured offline folders, syncd and then tried to use Outlook 2003 Offline. It worked just fine. I tried the Outlook 2000 client on a couple machines, all of them not being able to open the offline folders after connecting and synchronizing with the Exchange 2003 server. Is this version of Outlook not compatible using Offline folders with Exchange 2003? Or is there some kind of anomaly happening here? |
