Contact Display Names
I would like to have Outlook display my contacts by their name rather than
their e-mail address. Is there a way to automatically set the full name as the display name, or do I have to manually enter the display name each time. |

Contact Display Names
Thank you for responding to my post.
I'm using Outlook 2003. In the Contact form under the General Tab there is a field called "Display as". My version of Outlook as it was configured on installation automatically fills this in with the email address. In other versions I've used there is a way to get Outlook to automatically fill that in with the full name. That is what I want to do. No. Outlook 2003 will fill in Display As field with both the familiar name
and the email address. You have to change it manually if you want it to be something else. That field is of no consequence, so few find any need to change it. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Stirling" wrote in message news Thank you for responding to my post. I'm using Outlook 2003. Actually, the field is of great consequence to my clients. I have had
requests to not display their email address and, like Sterling, the only display I get is their email address...it does not include their full or familiar name (using Outlook, 2003). I have over 300 clients...are you saying i have to change each one of these manually??? Contact Display Names
I agree regarding the importance. But here is a deeper mystery. Even after
modifying those display names to remove the e-mail address, after synching with my PDA, the modified display names revert back to the e-mail address only. I'm running Outlook 2003 at both work and home and this problem is no longer a minor annoyance. Any suggestions? "MH" wrote: Actually, the field is of great consequence to my clients. Stirling:
I apologize if my "posting" is not correctly done but this is my first time & I don't kow what a string is. I wanted to know if you have found a solution to this problem. My entire office just upgraded to Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 and this is a big deal. We have thousands of contacts and we are used to sorting by contact name which you probably know is not the same as sorting by email address. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
