Excel files refuse to open
Suddenly all Excel files refuse to open
If I doubleclick on an xls file in Windows Explorer, I am getting a message "There was a problem sending the command to the program" Excel itself opens OK via Start-Programs, yet an attempt to open a file using File-Open results in the file shorly flushing on the screen and then Excel closes Same files open well on another computer. What can I do about it? |

From the Windows Start menu, choose Run and enter
Excel.exe /regserver This will cause Excel to start up, re-register all of its registry keys, then quit. Now, try opening your Excel files. -- Cordially, Chip Pearson Microsoft MVP - Excel Pearson Software Consulting, LLC www.cpearson.com aa wrote in message ... Followed the instructions.
It requested Office2000 CD with SP1 which I let him have. A box poped up shortly informing that the information is being gathered and then something installed. Yet now positive effect even after I rebooted the computer Anything else? "Chip Pearson" wrote in message ... Excel files refuse to open
Don't know if this helps but;
Some time ago I was told (by Dave Peterson) that doing an "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes and note the space) command prior to the "regserver" command sometimes works where the "regserver" doesn't appear to work on its own. -- Regards; Rob ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Chip Pearson" wrote in message ... Just a thought, but having twigged that you are using 2000, try deleting your
*.xlb file. This is the toolbar customisation file and all customisations will be lost if you do though. This file often caused problems in 2000 that would close it down. -- Regards Ken....................... Thank you everybody.
It turned out that Access took similar posture. So I've just uninstalled the whole Office 2000 and re-installed. So far it's OK, touch wood. Lookes like a virus? |
