Default Access 2003 (Ready to throw in the trash)

I posted the following article on 12/13 and received no response. Can
anyone help me out with this?

Subject: Access 2003 Error When using lookup wizard in a table
From: "Patrick Parks" Patrick
Newsgroups: microsoft.public.access
Date: Mon, 13 Dec 2004 13:33:01 -0800

I am trying to set up a lookup in a table that I have created. The lookup
reference is an existing table in the database. When I go to design view in
my table, and click in the Data Type column next to my field I want my lookup
to appear, I choose lookup wizard, then go through the wizard and set it up
the way I want, and click close or finish and get the error message "An error
occurred in the Field Builder. You've replaced or modified the default Field
Builder, and Microsoft Access is unable to run the new version. Reinstall
Microsoft Access to correct the error." I have not replaced anything, or
modified it. I have done all Office Updates and the computer is completely up
to date. When I click ok on the error, I get this: "Microsoft Access couldn't
launch the lookup wizard, or this wizard has been disabled....." it goes on
to say to add/remove access and reinstall. Any Ideas? I really dont want to
have to reinstall all of Office for this problem. I did rerun the setup, went
into the access options, and told it to run all Wizards from the computer.
This did not change the problem. Thanks

You might be screwed for an answer because you are describing an obscure
problem with a feature (lookup fields) that few experienced developers ever
use so it's unlikely that any of them have ever experienced the same
problem. The best practice is to set up ComboBoxes on your *forms* and
forget about using lookup fields.

I agree with Rick but you might try completely deleting the field and or
creating a new database and pasting current info into it. I have on
occassion had obscure problems like what you describe and by starting fresh
eliminated whatever error I made in the first place. No matter how long I do
this I always find that if I have to fight something for days it's because I
already messed it up. That is only my experience and not intended to reflect
in any other way.

Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB207816 describes a similar problem. The
lookup Wizard will only work with Text, Number and Yes/No fields. This
article also describes how this can be caused by multi-field indexes.
