It saves a copy on my desktop with a different file name?
When I am saving my excel sheet it saves it on my desktop and it is saved
with a different file name and it adds the extention .tmpfile. What should I do so that it would not save it on my desktop.

This isn't a normal excel file.
My guess (and it's just a guess) is that you have some other program "helping out". I'd try disabling your antivirus program to see if the problem goes away. You may want to share the name of your AV program. Others may have seen and fixed this problem.
