Default advancing the slides while the prest. is going?

I somewhat recall that while a presentation is going, that you could click a
number and have it advance to that slide?
I thought it was, you click the number of the slide and hit enter. All this
does is advance it to the next slide.

Is this the correct procedure, or is it you click the number and another
key?
thanks

If using a number pad, be sure the Num Lock key is active so it is giving
the computer numbers and not "arrows."

I find that it you use the numbers on the keyboard (above the Qwerty letters). It works everytime.
