Default Address Book Missing

Russ,

I've posted the exact process I've followed. But, instead of commenting on
my errors, You've inessence, said, I obviously didn't follow your
instructions, or referred me to another article. It's perfectly obvious to me
that you took less care reading my posts than I , your's.

You obviously do not have the patients for a non geek.

Thanks for your time, I'll try another route.

Unfortunately, you've never really provided a clear delineation of the
actual steps you've used other than to say that you've followed the steps in
the articles. But each time I drill down to the actual steps you've used, I
discover that you haven't followed the steps in the article correctly or
have misinterpreted them. The fact that a new profile you create contains
links to old data confirms you couldn't have followed the instructions. And
renaming a PST file is not a step in any process, is never recommended and
always corrupts the profile.
I can't post step by step instructions that are any clearer than the KB
articles nor can I anticipate how you will follow those instructions. Sorry.
Newgroups are not a very effective medium for troubleshooting complicated
processes. Why not call PSS so someone can help you real time while watching
what you're doing?

Russ,

I appreciate your time.

Instead of giving me a step by step description of what I'm supposed to be
doing, you send me articles which, I appreciate and read but, most do not
address my problem. I've given you, several times, the step by step
process
I've followed and instead of giving me specific corrective steps you refer
me
another article or simply say I didn't follow the recommendations of your
post. I realize I'm way beneath you concerning IT but, I'm not an idot, I
run
a $500 million business.

If you don't have the patience to talk with someone way beneath you,
please
refer me to someone else.

Thanks!

That's not what a new Outlook profile does if you've created it
correctly.
It creates a new, empty PST file because it has no knowledge of any other
PST files.
The only proper way to connect to an previous Outlook data file is to
open
it in Outlook, then set it as your default, restart Outlook, then close
the
new, empty PST file the new profile created. It's all explained in the
articles I posted.

Russ,

I was previously able to, and have created a backup pst file.

I read through the articles you suggested, and the third on looked the
most
promising but, it applies to OL 2003, and I was unable to duplicate the
steps.

I want to be clear on what's happened as a rewsult of our
conversations.
When I created the new profile, it automatically picked up the on and
only
pst file I had. When I opoen OL using the new profile, my original in
box,
sent items, calender and contacts show up. But, it is not "linking" to
the
address book, as in my original profile.

When I check properties on the contacts folder in both profiles, it
indicates that the OL Address Book, is "Contacts", but nothing is
listed
in
the address book of either profile.

Russ,

Please describe, in detail, the process to "migrate" my old
Outlook.pst
file
to the new profile. Can I just change the file name from
Outlook8.pst
to
Outlook.pst?

"Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote:

You missed my point. Outlook8.pst is an empty PST file created

by
creating new Contacts or migrating your old data file to the new
profile.

No, after I created the new profile, and checked the data file
tab,
it
listed
Outlook8.pst. When I clicked on address book tab, Outlook Address
Book
was
listed, and when I clicked on change, it showed Personal Folders:
Contacts. I
added nothing, it showed up when I created the profile.

Hi Brian,

To Add a new profile, I went to the Control PanelMailShow
ProfilesAdd
(I
typed in a new name for profile), and entered account
settings,
using
my
existing e-mail address. I tested connection and got a
successful
indication.
I then went back to the Mail Setup window, where I started
this
process,
clicked on the new profile in Show Profilespropertiesdata
files
,
and
saw
that the default folder was Outlook 8.pst. As I said in an
earlier
post, I
created and undid profiles a number of times.

I restarted Outlook, chose the new profile then clicked on
Contacts
tabFileFolderPropertiesOutlook Address Book. Contacts was
the
name
of
the
address book, the box was checked but light gray.

I confirmed that I actually received an e-mail in my in box of
the
new
profile from the test connection.

Where did I go wrong? There is nothing in the address book
(Contacts)
of
either the original profile, or the new one I created.

I've been using Outlook 2007 for 1 year without any

I've

created several new profiles, and still nothing.

Default Address Book Missing

I've read each of your posts carefully. I have spent an inordinate amount of
time doing so. To suggest otherwise is a great discourtesy and displays
complete disregard for the time we volunteers spend in this group. When I
have been able to extract sufficient detail from you it is clear that that
you have a great deal of misunderstanding as to how to follow the directions
that have been posted and I have already provided examples of those errors.
That is why I suggested contacting PSS so someone can walk you through the
steps in real time.
