Default Textbox field, fill using query based on value of id field on form

I posted this to ActiveX controls, but saw more discussions here, so forgive this 2nd posting:

I have a need to put up a few txtbox fields on a form, whose values need to be gotten by query, where the value of the projectid in the query matches the projectid field (already) on the form.

I tried putting =tblProject.projectid (with brackets), in the projectid column of the query, but it just comes up with ?NAME? type of thing.

So, if the projectid is 1487 on the main form, the query drills down to a username based on that project id.

I am able to do this with subforms, where my query gets the entire list, but the link fields between the subform and the master form are the projectid's. But, to display a few individual names (people responsible for particular phases of the project), that will not be edited, don't need to be multiple subforms, one for each name (right?).

thanks.
