The file may have been changed by another user since you last saved it
I have a user using Excel 2003 that opens any excel file
and then tries to save it gets this message: The file file name may have been changed by another user since you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do? Save a copy Overwrite changes They have not shared anything. They are uptodate on their patches. |

Hi Larry,
Thanks for your post. 1. Does your client open the Excel files from local computer or from a network share? 2. If your client start Excel in safe mode and then open the files, will the same issue occur? From Start--Run--excel /s, press OK to launch Excel in safe mode. 3. Has he/she installed any Antivirus Programs? I would suggest you disable Antivirus Programs. If you have installed Norton AV, the Norton Office Plug-in may cause many problems, such as preventing Office documents from opening and causing Word/Excel to crash on exit. In order to disable it, please refer to the following article: 329820 Latest Information About How to Use Microsoft Office with the Norton http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329820 I hope the information helps. Have a nice day! Hi,
I suggested Larry disable Antivirus Program just as we need to identify the root cause of the issue. Folks,
I am experiencing the same problem now after upgrading to Windows XP SP2. My file is stored on a Linux machine (running Samba). I did not have this problem before. As suggested by others, I temporarily disabled my Norton Antivirus-- it made no difference. In my case, it appears to be a new "feature" of XP SP2.
