Default How do I save a template for sharing?

I'm trying to save a template so that others can access it through a shared
network but am having trouble trying to open the template on other's
computer's. (It only opens as an xlt and not an xls) Do I have to save it in
each individual computer's C drive or is there a better way?

How are you/they opening the file? Are you browsing in Windows to open the
template? If so, does it still open and an xlt if you open Excel and then use
the Open dialog to open the file?

"Open dialog" should have been New dialog. Sorry about that.

If browsing in Windows, you may be able to Right-click on the template and
pick New instead of Open.

To properly *network* an XL template, where the original WB is saved in a
"shared" file (accessible to all on the network), and only a *copy* of the
template is opened in the File New folder, protecting the original from
accidental revisions, you must create a path *On Every Machine* that you
wish to be able to access this template.

There are numerous ways to accomplish this, including even using "Word" if
you have "Office" installed.

Post back if you're interested in the proper installation of a networked XL
template.

Even if the OP isn't interested, I would like to see it. Thanks,

Post back if these old threads need any clarification.

When Office is installed, and you use Word to create the template path:

Alternate startup file location in XL,
Bug in XL02 - Works in earlier versions - should work in XL03:

Connecting each individual machines template folder to the network template
