Default Location of file containing Personal Address Book entries

Hello, folks:

Here's an interesting quandary I hope someone can help me with. I
recently got a new computer with Microsoft Office Outlook 2003. My IT
guy at work got it all set up and copied my Personal Address Book file
onto the hard-drive. Since then I have been putting new addresses into
the personal address book and I'm able to retrieve them when I click
the little "book" icon. The problem is that I can't locate the actual
file where these addresses are going. I've searched everywhere and I
no longer seem to have a "mailbox.pab," which is where these addresses
used to be. I'd like to back-up the file and have some
transportability. The earlier version of Outlook I had provided the
full path of the personal address book file. This version just says
they're in Personal Address Book, with no additional info about
exactly where this resides. The Contacts folder in Outlook does not
contain the new addresses I have been inputting.

Does anyone know where Outlook 2003 keeps the file containing the
Personal Address Book? My so-called Information Specialists at work
are completely stumped (or not interested in helping me). Please drop
me a line if you have any hunches.

Thanks a bunch,
Craig

PAB's have not been used for years. If indeed you are still using one, it
would exist with a *.pab extension, and if you are using one, you are long
overdue for migrating to and using the Outlook Address Book, which replaced
the PAB 5 years ago.

Russ,

Thanks for your response. I agree-- I need to begin using the Contacts
folder for all of my email addresses. The only hitch is that I can't
locate exactly where my entries to my Personal Address Book have been
going since I got Outlook 2003 (about three weeks ago). There's no
longer a "mailbox.pab" file on my computer that shows it has been
updated in the last 3 weeks. This, despite the fact that I've been
inputting addresses into what appears to be my personal address book.
They're being saved somewhere, but I have no idea where. It's almost
like they're going into Neverland.

Do you know of a way I can find where these PAB entries have been
going? It appears that Outlook 2003 is doing something with them. Do
you have any advice?

Thanks again for your help,
Craig

If you are using a PAB, there must be a *.pab file somewhere.
What do you see in Tools E-mail accounts View or change existing
directories or address books ?
