Default email address for contact not showing

I am using Outlook 2002.

When I am looking at my contacts and however the view is set - the email
address column is either blank, or only shows a number. For example: 10009
..

If I double click on a specific contact to see all the information about it,
there is a properly formatted email in the email box.

If I do a new message to contact - the correct email is showing up in the
'to' box.

Why is the email not showing up when I am viewing my contacts?

Thanks for any help, Larissa

You neglected to state to which view you are referring and how you
configured it. There is no such thing as the "email address column," nor is
there even a field by that name, so your post requires considerable
clarification and correction.

Double-click the email address. What do you see?
