Default Product Key not working on Vista Laptop

I have recently purchased Office Ultimate for Students and obtained the 25
digit Product Key by email. When I tried to install the software on my laptop
(running Vista) the entry of the Product Key said "incorrect key -please
re-enter!" - I retried and even cut'n'paste from the email but still the same
result.
To test it further I partially installed the software on my home computer
(running XP Pro) and the Product Key was accepted as OK and allowed me to
proceed, although I did not install. I have since tested the installation up
to the Product Key entry on another PC running XP and it accepted the entry.
Initially I downloaded the software onto an XP Pro based PC then copied it
via: memory stick, cd and across the network to my laptop but on each
occasion I get the "incorrect Product Key" message.
Can anybody offer any help to get the product installed.
Many thanks
Frank Hill

Hi DL,
I had a version of Works on prior to this instalation but I don't think
there was a 2007 Trial.
Would that affect the installation?
Cheers,
Frank Hill

A trial version would render installing from CD hopeless
Check your Add/Remove dialogue and or Programs for any MS Office
installations

Default Product Key not working on Vista Laptop

Hi DL,
I checked the Control PanelPrograms & Features and I have cleared a
trial version of Office 2007, an Office Activation Assistant and Microsoft
Works out the system and checked in Program Files that there are no residual
files - I then ran a Registry cleaning product that found a number of faults
- rebooted the PC and the Product Key was still rejected more than once.
I checked the email once again to make sure I was entering it the Key
correctly but to no avail.
It feels as though there is an entry in the Registry that is conflicting
with the installation routine and in the past (with other products) MS have
provided a software fix that clears the problem - is there anything available
that would resolve this problem or can you suggest some action I can take
that will allow me to install the software correctly?
Many thanks for your help,
Frank

Generaly reg cleaners are snake oil and can do more damage than they fix
There is an MS KB Article on manual removal of Office 2007
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us
You might want to check through this for any remnents remaining on your
system.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924619 may also be relevent (note free
support for installation problems section)
