Default Transferring Excel 97 from older computer to Windows XP

I had Excel 97 on an older Compac computer which had
Windows 98 and RAM capacity of 64 MG. I transferred
everything to a new Dell computer with 2plus G or RAM. I
thought the Excel program would be transferred, but only
the files were, so now I have no Excel on my new
computer.I contacted Microsoft Customer Service for help
and for $35 was told that I had to contact the computer
manufacturer, since it was installed on the computer when
I purchased it. Is there no other way to do this? I have
no Excel CD and would prefer not to spend $200 to buy a
new program.Microsoft also gave me a URL that doesn't
even exist! Thank you for your help.

Your best bet would be to go to e-bay and do a search on excel, you can get
a fairly new version, Excel 97 for about 30-50 dollars.

David

I assume you "transferred" using the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard"

This facility does not transfer program setups AFAIK.

If you don't have the original MS Office CD you must make a trip to the
software store.

Check out Ebay for a deal on Ofice 97 or 2000. If you go this route, make
sure there is a licence for the product.

If you wish to purchase Office or Excel 2002 go here for details.

http://www.microsoft.com/office/programs/default.asp to see the Office
products and how to purchase.

Office 2003 is soon to be released. Go here for details on upcoming
evaluation kits.
