Default unwanted borders printing around slides when multiple pages per sh

I print out slides (_not_ handouts) two per page, using the layout tab in the
print dialog box. Using handouts makes the slide images too small for my use.

When I direct the output to an HP 5siMX printer or Business inkjet 1100, I
can suppress the printing of rectangle borders around each of the two images.
When printing to an HP 970cxi or varous pdf writers (pdf995, desktop pdf),

I cannot suppress the borders. I am suspicious that this is a powerpoint
driver that automatically assigns borders somehow. Anybody know a fix?

In the print dialog box (at least PPT 2000 and up) there
is a "Frame Slides" option. This adds a border around each
slide, which sounds to be what you have. Verify this
option is not selected before printing.
