Distribution List to Contact List
I created a distribution list. However, when I added people to my
distribution list (using the 'add new' button) I did not also add them to my contact list. Now I have many people in my distribution list. How do I add them to my contact list without copy/paste each one individually? |

You can't. If you wanted to add them to your Contacts, you should have done
so. Obviously, "Add New..." adds them only to the DL. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Michael" wrote in message ... I created a distribution list. Save the DL as a .txt file. Open it in Notepad and remove non-address lines and any addresses that are already in Contacts. Save the file. Import it into Outlook contacts as a tab-delimited file.

Distribution List to Contact List
Hi Sue,
Thanks for your quick reply. I have done all the steps you suggested. However, when I try to import it into Outlook, I run into some problems. After I select the destination folder as 'Contacts', I click on the next button, and the screen reads: the following actions will be performed: Import 'MyNewAddresses.txt' into folder: Contacts I assume I am supposed to click the next button, but it is not highlighted for me to click. At this stage, I am only able to click on the back and cancel buttons Please advise as to what I am doing wrong. Thanks, Michael "Sue Mosher [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Save the DL as a .txt file. You should see a Map Custom Fields button at some point and will need to use that to tell Outlook *how* to import the data. Also, did you specify that you're importing a tab-delimited file?

Sue,
Yes, I specified that I was importing a Tab Separated Values (Windows) file type. On the screen that states "Import 'MyNewAddresses.txt' into folder: Contacts" As well as the next button not being highlighted, there is a Map Custom Fields button that is not highlighted either. I do not know if this info will help, but I am using MS Outlook 2003. Please advise. Did you check the check box to the left of the listed import action?
