Lost emails
I have a question about whether or not Outlook Express
backs up email FOLDERS. I was trying to transfer my emails from one Windows XP Login to another, and it was all fine and dandy until I opened up Outlook Express, pointed my "Save emails to" address to the new folder, and then when I opened up OE, I lost not only the emails in the folders that I had made, but also the Inbox emails, Sent emails, etc. which are the generic folders. Do I have any chance of recovering them? Oh yea, I guess I CUT instead of COPIED the emails, so the original files are also deleted... So, basically, I am just wondering if there is a hidden place that OE stores emails that I can recover these lost emails from. Thanks, Nick |

You need to do this periodically yourself. You can use this link for all information, which starts out with a link to a free program that will make the process painless. http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/backup/index.htm You can try doing a search for *.dbx and seeing if you can find the "lost" folders. I am unsure of what you actually tried to do, but if you tried to change your store folder and did not create the folder before moving the mail, I am afraid you may have lost all your mail. You may have to enable "show hidden files and folders" via control panelfolder optionsview before you can do the search for the folders. -- Kath Adams MS MVP - Windows (IE/OE) |
